Heavy jets are what Palm Beach estate owners and corporate groups move to when the cabin has to work as a room. Eight to nineteen seats, 2,800 to 4,750 nautical miles, separate zones on most configurations, and baggage volume that copes with a family relocating south for the season.
Typical Aircraft
The Challenger 604 and 605 are among the most chartered heavy jets in the market and the easiest to source here, with the 600, 601 and the Challenger 650 alongside them. The Falcon 2000, 2000S and 2000LXS are the short-field members of the group. The three-engine Falcon 900, 900EX and 900LX seat up to fourteen and carry the longest legs on the list at up to 4,750 nautical miles. The Gulfstream IV, the Gulfstream III and the G350 bring the classic heavy jet cabin, and the Legacy 600 and 650 take the most luggage.
When Heavy Jets Fit the Palm Beach Trip
St. Maarten (TNCM) is the practical gateway for St. Barths, since St. Barths takes only short-field types and the final leg moves to a smaller aircraft. Grand Cayman (MWCR) is a straight run from Palm Beach on this size of airplane. Van Nuys (VNY) westbound is the other regular heavy jet trip out of here, and the flight time is long enough that the extra cabin pays for itself.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Palm Beach Patterns We Plan Around
Palm Beach runs on a calendar, and we plan around it. The season opens in November and holds through April, with December to March the sharpest stretch: the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington from January into late March, the charity gala circuit through February, the Palm Beach International Boat Show in mid-March, and polo finals running into April. Those weeks book out early, and much of the aircraft that winters here is already committed to owners who are in town. Summer is the other half of the picture. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30 and peaks in September, and summer afternoons build convective weather along the coast most days, so morning departures are the clean window in those months. Your operator checks current weather and airspace notices before every departure, and we tell you early when a departure time looks tight.
Heavy jets are where Palm Beach season creates genuine scarcity, because the local fleet is finite and a good deal of it sits under management contracts with owners who are in residence. Thanksgiving week, the days around Christmas and New Years, and the Easter and Passover window are the three periods we tell clients to lock down first. Outside those weeks the same aircraft are generally available on a few days’ notice.
