Piston aircraft handle the shortest trips around Palm Beach, the ones where a jet would spend most of the flight climbing and descending. Three to nine seats, 730 to 1,480 nautical miles, and the lowest hourly cost of anything on this site.
Typical Aircraft
The Beech Baron 58 and the Beechcraft Baron G58 are the standard twins here. The Cessna 340 is the only pressurized aircraft in the group and the one that can climb above weather the others have to go around. The Piper Navajo, Cheyenne and Chieftain family seats up to nine. The Piper PA-23 Aztec and the Piper Aerostar 600 are the workhorses, the Piper Saratoga PA-32R and the Piper Cherokee Six carry six or seven, and the Cirrus SR-22 is the single, certified with a whole-airframe parachute system.
When Pistons Fit the Palm Beach Trip
Short regional runs up the Treasure Coast and across to the Gulf side, aerial survey and photography work, and trips into small Florida fields that will not take a jet. Palm Beach County Park Airport in Lantana (KLNA) is the usual base for this category. These aircraft are commonly flown single pilot, and we confirm the pilot’s experience and currency on the type before the trip is booked.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Palm Beach Patterns We Plan Around
Palm Beach runs on a calendar, and we plan around it. The season opens in November and holds through April, with December to March the sharpest stretch: the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington from January into late March, the charity gala circuit through February, the Palm Beach International Boat Show in mid-March, and polo finals running into April. Those weeks book out early, and much of the aircraft that winters here is already committed to owners who are in town. Summer is the other half of the picture. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30 and peaks in September, and summer afternoons build convective weather along the coast most days, so morning departures are the clean window in those months. Your operator checks current weather and airspace notices before every departure, and we tell you early when a departure time looks tight.
Summer is the honest limitation here. An unpressurized piston cannot climb over a Florida afternoon, so from June through September we book these flights early in the day or not at all. From December through April they are dependable, and for four or five people over a short distance nothing else comes close on cost.
