Light Jets

Light jets are the working middle of the Palm Beach market. Five to nine seats, 1,400 to 2,165 nautical miles, and enough cabin to make two or three hours comfortable without stepping up a price bracket. Most short-notice requests we take in this market end up on a light jet.

Typical Aircraft

The Cessna Citation line runs deepest here: the Citation II, the Citation Bravo, the Citation V, the Citation Ultra, the Citation Encore, and the CJ2, CJ3 and CJ4. The Learjet 31, 40 and 70 bring speed, and the Learjet 35 carries the longest legs in the group at 2,125 nautical miles. The Hawker 400XP and the Beechjet 400A seat eight, the Premier 1A has the widest cabin among the small aircraft, and the Falcon 10 is the fast outlier with a tighter cabin.

When Light Jets Fit the Palm Beach Trip

Washington is the natural light jet run north, into Dulles (IAD) or Reagan National (DCA), and most clients are back the same evening. Nassau (MYNN) and the near Bahamas work comfortably on the shorter-legged types. New York is reachable on a Learjet 35 or a CJ4 with a light load, though in season most clients moving that corridor want more cabin than this category gives them.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Palm Beach Patterns We Plan Around

Palm Beach runs on a calendar, and we plan around it. The season opens in November and holds through April, with December to March the sharpest stretch: the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington from January into late March, the charity gala circuit through February, the Palm Beach International Boat Show in mid-March, and polo finals running into April. Those weeks book out early, and much of the aircraft that winters here is already committed to owners who are in town. Summer is the other half of the picture. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30 and peaks in September, and summer afternoons build convective weather along the coast most days, so morning departures are the clean window in those months. Your operator checks current weather and airspace notices before every departure, and we tell you early when a departure time looks tight.

This is the category where the Teterboro corridor shows its shape. Northbound empty legs out of KDJT turn up in November and December while aircraft reposition south for the winter, and southbound empties appear in April as the season closes. If your dates move by a day, ask us to watch for one. Between June and November we build a hurricane contingency into a light jet booking and talk it through before you commit.
