Bell 407

The Bell 407 is the everyday single-turbine helicopter of the Palm Beach market and the one most often available at short notice for a six-seat trip inside Palm Beach County. Aerial photography over the island, a run out to Wellington, a transfer down to Boca Raton: this is the aircraft operators quote first for all of it.

Bell built the 407 on the LongRanger airframe with a Rolls-Royce 250-C47B turbine and a four-blade composite main rotor, which made it smoother and quieter than the type it replaced. Six seats, roughly 324 nautical miles of range and about 133 knots of cruise. It is one of the most numerous turbine helicopters in the North American charter fleet, so availability is usually good.

Why the Bell 407 Fits Palm Beach

Real estate and construction work. The 407 is the aircraft most often used for aerial photography and site survey along the Intracoastal, through the Estate Section and up the Jupiter Island corridor, where an hour in the air covers ground that takes a day by road.

Palm Beach County Park Airport at Lantana and F45 in the Jupiter and Juno Beach area both work as helicopter bases, and a 407 sitting at either one can be at KDJT or Boca Raton in minutes to meet an inbound jet.

Wellington through the equestrian season, December into April. Owners and sponsors shuttling between the island, the showgrounds and the polo grounds book the 407 more than any other helicopter here, because it has the lowest hourly cost of the six-seat options.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
